How to Keep Your Storage Safe
Here are some pointers on how to keep your storage safe:
- Be clean - White goods should be cleaned before storing. Doors should be secured slightly opened to assist aeration. A deodorizer inside fridges or freezers is also a good to maintain freshness. Placing items inside fridges or freezers that are heavy or sharp is not a good idea as they may cause damage.
- Use deodorizer - Empty the contents of wardrobes, drawers, and cupboards. Clothing and personal goods should be packed in cartons with some mothballs, or similar product to protect and keep them in good condition. Don’t left food stuff with your goods as this may attract vermin.
- Use packing - Place some packing inside the bottom and top of cartons containing breakable goods. Protect fragile items by wrapping them individually in packing paper. Fill any gaps in the cartons with packing to protect and prevent things from moving.
- Use bubble wrap - Storing mirrors, paintings can be protected by using bubble wrap to protect them. Do not store these items laying down. Pack all electrical goods in bubble wrap and then place in cardboard boxes, seal the top and if possible place a moister absorption product in the box.
- Remove batteries - Any electrical or electronic equipment shouldn’t have battery in it to avoid damage from leaking batteries.
- Drain fuel and oil - If machinery will be stored, make sure that fuel and oil are drained. This can remove risk of damage or explosion to your goods and also assist us in maintaining a safe site.
